Feel All the Feels
emotional intelligence (EQ) is more predictive of adult success than intellectual intelligence (IQ). It is the ability to recognize our own emotions and the emotions of others and to have the experience and skills to process and respond to those emotions in healthy ways. You can foster this intelligence in your children by simply allowing them to feel their feelings, free of distraction, shame, or pressure to solve the problem. The ability to ride out the storms of the emotional sea with self worth intact is a tremendous gift we can give our children and one we give through a most basic act of acceptance. If one cannot tolerate their feelings, they explode or escape through coping mechanisms like violence or drug addiction.
